Battery pack for tsmc/UMC automated guided vehicle (AGV) for Wafer transportation inside the factory. Customer was looking for replacing Nickel-cadmium battery with lithium manganese battery. tsmc's order was 20 sets of battery pack. Each set was built by 4 serial and 2 parallel 3.7V 2.8Ah battery cell. Each pack delivers 83Wh of power to drive the AGV.
The BMS provides battery cell’s voltage and temperature data to AGV’s central control unit. The voltage data is being used for determining if the battery need to be charged. A resistor mechanism has been designed and implemented into the BMS in order for Lithium Ion battery to work with Nickel-cadmium battery charger (critical for the system).
JD Power Taiwan delivered the battery pack in 2015.
The AGV battery are still running smoothly today. Other wafer manufacturer (4150Wh for UMC) has order by following the same battery configuration.
