There are two important battery characteristics for ship battery starter. The requirement of high cold cranking amperes (CCA) in the range of 1500A - 2500A. And, the need of high voltage (24V) and large current (1000 amp) discharging continuously.
The electronic components of the pairing BMS need to be able to withstand the high voltage and high current for at least 5-10 seconds. It is very common to encounter a mix battery types of environment since we’re dealing with the ships that are required to service for over decades.
Typically, the equipment is required to be operated properly for over a decade on a ship or board. To meet the requirement, we need to make sure each battery cell will be charged evenly and carry the same loading when discharge. This is the critical factor to determine the battery operating life span. A battery pack that assembled by battery cells with different discharge curve will surely shorten the operating life span of the pack.
At UC Battery, we are using tightly controlled manufacturing environment, tidy and thorough calibration of manufacturing equipment, years of rich experience, we’re able to grade, sort, and assemble the battery cell into healthy battery pack effectively.
In additionally, our BMS offers active balance charging ability to make sure every battery cell is being properly charged. This process assures the battery pack will be able to provide the electricity evenly. These are all critical functions to protect the battery cells and pack therefore improve the serviceability of our battery.
Another challenge that we’re dealing with regularly is to make sure our Lithium-Ion battery pack is compatible with other type of batteries (Nickel-cadmium battery and Lead-acid battery) in the same operating environment. Again, this has been addressed and managed by our smart BMS.
UC Battery has designed and delivered battery starter (APU) for lightweight airplane. In order to jump start turbine engines, our battery pack delivers 20-25C, 1,000 Amp of electricity power for over 40-50 seconds. The traditional APU for aviation industry is lead-acid battery-based battery truck. UC Battery’s Lithium-Ion battery pack is a light weight small size beast (24V 72Ah portable) that can be carried onto an airplane.
